Flag 109

The American Flag is a frequent subject in my work and I have created many assemblage works with salvaged metal. In contrast, this piece is painted on a section of vintage wood. The story is that when we purchased a collection of old license plates, they were delivered in vintage wooden produce/fruit crates. I disassembled the crates and kept the wooden ends. They are nice little panels and the shape lends itself to the flag motif. Stray markings on the boards are original and unique to each item. I am drawn to the American Flag for my works due to the intense political environment in which we find ourselves and the sense of crisis that pervades.
